About us

A working nursery, not a plant shop

Konaseema Nursery started with a few beds of saplings and the ordinary advantage of this region — alluvial soil off the Godavari, a long growing season, and enough water. Twenty-five years later the same ground carries seed beds, a grafting bench, shade houses and standing rows of field-grown trees.

A nursery is really one business repeated at different speeds. A portulaca cutting is saleable in six weeks. A royal palm takes six years before it is worth loading. The work in between — pricking out, potting on, shifting bags, weaning stock off shade — is most of what happens here, and almost none of it is visible in a finished garden.

The nursery is also where Eco Landscapes came from. Growing for our own planting crews changed what we keep: more material at usable sizes, matched heights for avenues, and stock hardened properly, because we were the ones who had to answer for it a year after planting.

Retail plants, planters and gifting sit with our other brand, Plants & Pots.

Palms, crotons and clipped hedging on a completed planting scheme

How we work

  • Nothing is bought in to resell

If it carries our tag, it was propagated here. That is the only way we can tell you its age, its rootstock and how it has been fed.

  • The mother block is not for sale

Scion wood and cuttings come off trees we keep and observe. It costs us the ground they stand on and it is why a named variety is that variety.

  • Nothing leaves soft

Stock is stepped out of shade into full sun and weaned off water before dispatch. A plant that has never been stressed will not survive being planted.

  • We will tell you not to buy

Wrong season, wrong soil, wrong size for the site — better said now than argued about after it has died.
